What waste can be reused?

(Posted on March 21, 2023)

When we stop using something and we decide to put it in the trash it becomes waste. But not all of it should be wasted. Actually, a lot of it can be saved. There are basically two ways to reuse garbage: composting and recycling. Most of us already know this but I think it is good to point it out.
Composting is a process that creates nutrient-rich soil that fertilizes plants from biodegradable, organic waste. It is stored in a place where it is decomposed. It creates a great cycle for vegetables, fruit rinds, grains, some paper, tea bags, coffee filters and looseleaf tea. It should be noted, that meat, dairy and cooked food are not compostable.
Recycling is a process that reuses material that would otherwise be wasted. If you think about it, composting is a special way of recycling. But not just biodegradable stuff can be recycled. Metal, paper, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and jugs, aluminium and meatal cans and even electronic devices. All of these materials should be separated so that they can be reused. It is especially important to correctly put away electronic waste, as we have already mentioned in a different article.
Everything else unfortunately can’t be reused. It is stored in landfills. The overwhelming amount of trash stored there is already causing a problem. Some countries are unable to handle all the waste and are paying for it to be taken elsewhere. We can all help with this issue by recycling.
